Dilute Alkali and Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment of Microwave Liquefied Rape Straw Residue for the Extraction of Cellulose Nanocrystals

چکیده
Microwave-assisted liquefaction of rape straw in methanol was conducted to collect the liquefied residues for the extraction of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). The liquefied residue with content of 23.44% from 180C/7.5min was used to fibrillate CNCs with dilute alkali (2% NaOH) and hydrogen peroxide (5% H 2 O 2 ) treatments, followed by ultrasonication for 15min. The FT-IR spectra and SEM images revealed that the liquefied residue from 180C/7.5min exhibited a relatively homogeneous texture and a huge surface with cellulose as core structure. The retained hemicelluloses and other impurities in the liquefied residue were eliminated by 2% NaOH treatment, and the surface and accessibility of the alkali treated sample were significantly increased by 5% H 2 O 2 treatment. The TEM images confirmed the CNCs had an average diameter of 12.59 nm.The CNCs had good thermal stability with a maximum weight loss temperature of 376.5C.

Thermal decomposition characteristics of microwave liquefied rape straw residues using thermogravimetric analysis
The thermal decomposition characteristics of microwave liquefied rape straw residues with respect to liquefaction condition and pyrolysis conversion were investigated using a thermogravimetric (TG) analyzer at the heating rates of 5, 20, 50 C min. The hemicellulose decomposition peak was absent at the derivative thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) curve of liquefied residues, because it had been d...
متن کاملEffects of Alkaline Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment of Cotton and Wheat Straw on Cellulose Crystallinity and on Composition and Site and Extent of Disappearance of Wheat Straw Cell Wall Phenolics and Monosaccharides by Sheep 1
Effects of alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) treatment on cellulose crystallinity and cell wall phenolic monomer and monosaccharide composition were measured using cotton and wheat straw (WS). Two WS treatments were used in this study, Type I WS, for which pH is not regulated during AHP treatment, and Type II WS, for which pH is regulated at 11.5 -+ .2 during AHP treatment. Wheat straw had a low...

متن کاملCellulose Stability and Delignification after Alkaline Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment of Straw
Neutron diffraction profiles for cellulose from different sources were compared before and after alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) treatment. It was found that AHP treatment did not cause detectable changes in the structure of highly polymerized cellulose. In measurements on wheat straw, peaks were observed at the angles characteristic of pure cellulose. Changes, with AHP treatment, of the inten...
متن کاملCharacterization of Microwave Liquefied Bamboo Residue and Its Potential Use in the Generation of Nanofibrillated Cellulosic Fiber
Bamboo raw feedstocks with large particle size (20−80 mesh) were subjected to a microwave liquefaction system, and the liquefied products were separated into biopolyols and liquefied residues. Biopolyols were first analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC−MS), and the main components were sugar derivatives with 2−4 hydroxyl groups and phenolic compounds derived from lignin. The resi...
